BIOGRAPHY

Laxmi Manuela is a self-taught visual artist and female street artist whose work is rooted in personal and cultural storytelling. Growing up in the Netherlands with Indian and Surinamese heritage, she was raised in a community where becoming an artist wasn’t considered a traditional path—and where many of the themes she now explores in her work, such as queerness, sexuality, and female identity, were considered taboo. These unspoken boundaries became the fuel for her artistic voice.

Through large-scale murals and intimate studio pieces, Laxmi creates bold yet sensitive work that opens space for conversations around identity, self-expression, and the strength of the feminine spirit. Her art subtly celebrates resilience and softness while challenging stereotypes—especially those that silence or limit women and queer communities.

Her work has appeared across the Netherlands and beyond, including a collaboration with the Dutch Embassy in India, where she created pieces that honored the cultural bridge between both countries. Whether painting on city walls or in quiet studio moments, each project is a chance to spark dialogue, challenge norms, and empower others to own their story.

In the coming year, Laxmi will create several murals throughout the Netherlands and continue pursuing her dream of painting in communities around the world. She believes in the transformative power of transparency and storytelling in art—and is driven by a desire to connect across cultures through visual language.
